Before I got to the gantry painted I was thinking, just paint it and it'll look perfect, and then there you are. I'll be in Monterey the last weekend in April and I do not know California at all. Where are you?

Thanks, guys!
Jerry, we are in Irvine, which is in Orange County, about 5 hours to the south of Monterey - a long boring drive!

A few more photos, taken late Saturday afternoon, hence the need for flash: Singage is all printed on label paper, then covered with some clear laminating sheet for protection.

Hi guys! I have not had much time to do a lot of work on the track lately, but here is an update from last weekend's work: Note the ever-present QC cat - she does not show it, but she does approve so far. I started adding the outer barriers, which are made up of two layers of 1/8" hardboard, one attached to the framing under the MDF sheet, and a second narrower piece glued to the inside of the first layer. This allowed me to make some nice curves, but also meant I had big wedges of open space to fill: Some expanding sealer did the job, and once it's fully dry I will sand it down level with the top of the barriers and paint the whole lot.

It's a while since I updated this thread, but here's the latest. I had to dismantle the whole track in September to make room for painters to paint the outside walls of the house, so the whole track was sotred in pieces in the garage for about 3 weeks: It only took about 3 hours to take it all apart, but then about 6 hours to put it all back together again once the painters were done. I took the opportunity to finish off some painting on the barriers that were against the wall, and I mounted a shelf on the wall for a flat screen montior for the Trackmate system: More photos here: smg.photobucket.com/albums/v48/gascarnut/Wood%20Track/?start=100So I guess I can say it's all done at last - it has been about 14 months since I started this adventure, and it was a lot of fun doing it all myself. I learned a lot of new skills (and some new words!) along the way. If any of you happen to be in Orange County any time over a weekend, give me a call and you are welcome to come round and run some laps. Unfortunately I am still working away from home during the week. Take care, all.

Dennis, if you don't mind I'm wondering what soldering iron/gun, solder/flux you use when building your chassis ?
