Consider this when casting your vote for the 8th class in the runoff poll;
The GT Class/Sedans are already represented with 3 determined classes in the top 7. Slot It DTM has been run twice before. Sports/Sedans are the only group not yet represented. All of their choices are new, have been previously suggested but never run before.

I have a Scaley Ford Capri, it is very similar to the Ford Escort. Can we please add the Capri to the Scaley class if this class is voted in? Chris

I know it's early in the poll, but why don't we just run both these classes? Tom

Here is why we cannot run both classes;
Crucially, the run schedules based upon four quarters of 12 events per quarter simply will not allow for it.
I calculated the dates for the classes we're currently running in 2023 and the last 2023 class, Ford GT will not even commence until January 6th, and concludes on March 20th 2024! The Nascar class concludes on February 7th.
The first class for the '2024 Classes' will commence on February 17th 2024.
Calculating for just the 7 voted finalists, 2024 classes, results with the conclusion of the 7th class on January 15th, 2025. That doesn't even include the 2023 2.5 T/A class that's slated to be included next year.
These figures are based upon our current run schedules without any breaks, except for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Hopefully everyone will now recognize the fact that just based upon the 7 classes already voted in for 2024, we're already running into 2025! Obviously, this still is not including the winner of this 'runoff' vote for the 8th and final class!

So how about shorter series'--say 10 races instead of 12? Or maybe even 9? Tom That idea has been brought up before, but not 'officially', and by that I mean; not posted here on the website. It was verbally as an enquiry at one of our race meetings. I seem to remember that idea wasn't widely endorsed by the members there. But it certainly can be addressed here if you wish.

The idea behind the 12 races for a class was to not have to buy new cars all the time. Getting to use the car for a while, without replacing it so soon. When I started in this club, we only ran a car for 4 races, which was once a month. We replaced both cars at that time. The whole idea of making a list of cars to race for a "year" is to give everyone some time to get "new" cars before we need to use each car. It doesn't matter that we are running "over" to the next year with a set of cars, since we have selected them already. When we get down to the last four or so race classes, we will make a new set of classes to race and then will race through those cars. Then repeat again, selecting more classes for another period of time again.
If you went back and looked at the results of the last "years" poll, there might have been a class added when we dropped a class, the FLY Can Am class.
When you run a shorter series, the end results of races may depend on perfect attendance more than true performance.

I would be in favor of keeping both of these classes, since they are a couple of the slower classes that we may run.

I think Marc is referring to the length of the series but I maybe mistaken. I also prefer that we keep it to a 12 race series due to the fact it makes it more enjoyable to run a set class for a good amount of time. And also agree that the classes picked shouldn’t be limited to the year it is as much as just the next “group” of classes being run. Look at half the sports they run some of the season is in one year and some in the next year but all just 1 season. Just my 2 cents.

Including both runoff classes will finish up near July/August 2025.
If the majority of members that voted for the 2024 classes want to go that long before wanting to vote on the next "year" or "time period", we can certainly do so.
They will have to speak for themselves though.
Regarding the 9, 10 or 12 race series is something also that can be voted upon by the members. If there are enough responses desiring change we can certainly put that up for vote too.

I don't think it needs to be within a predetermined time frame. I prefer 12 races per class, if we shortened the races we don't get as much run time for the class. Chris

Clarifying the Scalextric Sports/Sedan class will hopefully address concerns regarding it's inception. The fact that it is the option selected by vote which incorporates all of the other options for those Scalextric cars is at the heart of the matter.
As discussed last night at David's race, all of those cars have varying "attributes or limitations". In the 2024 Classes poll, the first option was Caterham 7s followed by Mini Coopers and then Cortinas and Escorts.
The fact that it was the last option of grouping all of them together that got most votes, may well give certain car types an edge. Rules of course will be written to enable making a member's choice of car(s) drivable and hopefully competitive. Chris asked about the inclusion of the Capri, which if deemed not to hold a performance advantage could be added too.
Either which way, there are several club members who are well-informed and experienced enough and whom own some if not all of these cars. They are well prepared to give recommendations for any tire/wheel selections and in the case of the Mini Cooper (original early version), those same members suggested a motor replacement to make the car more drivable.
All aspects will be addressed and rules written to make these varied cars usable. They should be a slower but fun class and we will work with the experienced members to ensure we can optimize all the varied cars.

Now that the poll has expired, the "official" winner is the Scalextric class for the 8th spot of the 2024 Classes.
There have been 5 members who have expressed their wish to include the other class, Slot It DTM (9th) in the schedule for 2024.
It could simply be tacked on to that schedule.
To be fair and democratic, I stated that with the approval of a 'majority of voters', i.e. 8 of 15 voters that voted in the original '2024 Classes' poll, that the 9th place class could be included in that schedule.
That requires only 3 more voters approval for inclusion.
Is it such a 'big deal' just to include another class? Not really, it is just important for the integrity of the club that it is done in a fair and equally representative manner. Democratically.
