I don't see the Slot.it Datsun 510 being any faster than the Revo slot cars or some of the other cars also. The Slot.it Datsun 510 should have the same size, 21k RPM, as the Revoslot cars. It should be the same motor as used in Slot.it's DTM series of cars, an in-line motor pod and the black end bell 21k motor. Jim W Yes but the other cars in the class are likely to be 18k IE Scaley, Fly, etc. Chris

Wouldn't these cars fit better into its own class, like Revo Slot/Slot It Trans AM 2.5 etc? Chris

Wouldn't these cars fit better into its own class, like Revo Slot/Slot It Trans AM 2.5 etc? Chris Chris- as of November, this class is "on hold" for further study before any attempt to run it in 2024. Stay tuned, as Robert will be posting a poll shortly for members to help select other classes for next year.

Depending on what we decide on the Under-2.5 TA rules, the SlotIt 510 may or may not be allowed. Probably best to wait until we see how quick the SlotIt version is and what happens with the rules. Thanks, Tom!

The 2.5l T/A class was made last year just for this car and was delayed so the Revo 510 could come out even before knowing that slot it was making one not saying that the slot it wouldn’t be allowed.

The 2.5 liter class was decided on before the Datsun 510 was known to be made by any slot car company. Some thought that maybe the Escort and Alfa could be used in the 2.5 liter and under class. When this class was run in the Vintage club, we used cars that had 18k or less motors. First problem, do all the other cars need to be re-motored to now be able to run with the new Revo slot cars or do you "make" the Revo slot cars the only cars in the class? Remember, we only had the known about the Escort and Alfa at that time. Second, a thought was to make all cars use the Revoslot chassis for the 2.5 liter and under class. I didn't think it was possible to use another body with the Revoslot chassis. I have a Spirit BMW 2002 and that body, as is most other slot cars, the sides of the body curve in at the bottom. On the Revoslot cars, they mount the chassis on the sides of the body, so their car's bodies don't curve in like most other slot cars. All other slot cars use a front and rear body posts to mount their chassis. Since, most of our classes are Box Stock plus, this class, 2.5 liter and less, needs to be looked at as to what direction the class will be run, if it is ever run. I feel the class will be a lot like the 60-65 Sebring class, which could use many different cars from different slot car companies. If you make the class with the Revoslot cars only in it, you don't allow the Opel to run in that class. If you just run the Revoslot "mini" cars, like we did last year, that would include all of their cars then. I feel that Revoslot cars are cars that would be best only when raced in their own class. Most other small cars do not have the same parts as a Revoslot car will come with. Most other slot cars will have plastic wheels, plastic bushings, press on gears, snap-in guides, lower RPM motors and usually a one-piece flexible plastic chassis, all at a cost of less than a Revoslot car.

I agree Jim. we actually just ran a Revo Slot 2.5L T/A class not too long ago, minus the 510. There are other companies that make eligible cars for this class and with a little work can be good cars. Maybe use them in a limited modified class ( stock body, chassis, interior but with aftermarket wheels, gears, axles, guide and a spec 18K motor.
Fly--Alfa GTA, Porsche 911
MRRC--Porsche 911
Spirit--BMW 1600/2002
Scaley--Ford Escort, Lotus Cortina, VW Beetle, Mini Cooper
Pink Kar--VW Beetle

I would like box stock plus no Revo Slot or Slot it for this class. If we all run the box stock plus cars everyone has equal cars. Chris

BS+ for the cars I mentioned would be a tough class to drive--tires might be hard to find for some of them.

Just about everything on that list is more expensive than the Revo slot though and if tires are that hard to find why is that a good option for those who don’t have the cars and tires already?

Again, it's up to the committee and the members to decide.

This post is also posted at the beginning of this thread. The purpose of this 'UPDATED' version is to readdress this class, containing all the original posts as well as recent ones posted in the 'Revo Slot Datsun 510' thread. I've written a summation that hopefully addresses pertinent points since the arrival of the long-awaited Revo Slot Datsun 510.
The conception and framework of the ruleset that will define this class will consider current discussion and acknowledgment of previously covered content. The rules will be written by the committee in effect at the time they are formulated. All member comment and suggestions will be considered when drafting the framework for the ruleset.
It is my belief that an acceptable framework for this class can be achieved, and that most, if not all members will find acceptable. I absolutely, do not see it as another “Sebring 60 - 65” debacle, with that class’s inherent issues compromising parity among disparate classes, all 'within a common class’.
Clarifying and perhaps merging the practical and suggested options can certainly be discussed with a refreshed perspective.
This class was originally slated to be run last year, but was deferred primarily due to the anticipated release of a principal protagonist; the Datsun 510 sedan. Also of note is that the series run as the ‘Mini Revo Slot’ concluded nearly four months ago, in November last year. Several of those cars are eligible for the ‘2.5 T/A series’ class. Based upon the scheduled ‘2024 Classes Run Order’, the 2.5 T/A class would be slated to commence around August 3rd, 2024. That is still 5 months away and gives ample time to frame rules for it.
PRACTICALITY
Straightaway, the benefits of the represented Revo Slot branded cars that competed in the actual series becomes apparent and self-evident. Serious consideration must be made for the fact that the chief protagonists; Alfa Romeo GTA, Datsun 510, and BMW 2002 are all made to the same material specification by the same manufacturer. Include the Ford Escort (though not a principal competitor) and you have four different marques, all of which are inherently ‘equal'.
One principal car that won championships, but is not currently produced by Revo Slot, is the original Porsche 911. Otherwise, all of the top cars would be represented completely and ‘equally’ by a common manufacturer.
Addition of other manufacturer's cars to the aforementioned Revo Slot branded ones, could still be regarded as ‘practical’ although careful consideration to availability and assessment of performance must be ensured when designating modifications.
SUGGESTED
When considering other manufacturer’s cars, such as FLY, Scalextric, MRRC, Spirit etc. consideration must address; availability and overall cost, including suggested or designated modifications.
There are a number of cars that are eligible, some more easily available than others, and it will ultimately fall to each member’s preferences as to which car(s) he wants to campaign.
There are significant cars that competed in the 2.5 challenge that may not have distinguished themselves as much as the ‘winners’, however were important or relevant nonetheless.
Box Stock options would realistically only apply to the Revo Slot cars.
Limited Modifications could realistically apply to all manufacturer’s cars. I would suggest that members designate their interests or intent to either acquire or campaign a specific car or cars, so that the committee can address those specific cars for consideration regarding allowances for modification.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Now that Revo Slot’s Datsun 510 has arrived and has met with unprecedented demand, it genuinely begs to enter formal competition. The only acceptable way that it realistically can, is to compete in the already 'voted for’ and deferred 2.5 T/A class. Any other option would have to wait for the current ‘2024 Class Run Order’ to expire. The fact that Slot It’s version of the 510 has yet to arrive does not diminish this marque’s ability to legitimately represent itself in the actual series it was ‘developed' for.
It would be a shame not to pursue this class and let this most-anticipated slot car just languish on the shelf for another year.
