I don't buy that many Scalextric cars. In their Trans Am series, they made most of the cars with the same parts. Making a few changes through the years, such as different guides. When they brought out the Javelin, they made this car with an inline motor and a half interior. It also came with a "different" motor, which is used in their other inline cars also. All of the previous Trans Am cars were sidewinders. As far as I know, the Javelin is the only inline Trans Am car. Most, if not all, of the new Scalextric cars will be using their inline motors and gearing now, which should include the half interiors also. I prefer a sidewinder in my Scalextric cars, because that what most of my cars have. An inline motor and gearing may have different problems than a sidewinder has, such as a few of us experienced with the NSR Formula cars. The gears required more lubrication than most of us was giving our cars. In a sidewinder motor and gearing, the car can have excessive side play while an inline motor and gearing in the modern cars has a slot in the crown gear to control the side play, it just needs to be greased more often.
