I'm rather partial to my Slot.It SCP controller.

You can use your own or the house controllers. Any brand.

You can use any controllers at my track, and I have two Professor Motor and two DeFalco house controllers. I also have two Slot.it controllers.

Most of our tracks have the 3 post connections. A couple of the tracks will use the XLR plug for the controllers. On my wood track, it is set up to use either connection type for the controllers, but you can only use one of them at a time. I had a brand-new Professor Motor controller that was destroyed by hooking up a resistor controller at the same time. The Professor controllers do not have any protection from improper connections and usually it only takes out the brake pot, that time it took out much more. I am now using Difalco controllers with XLR plugs as my house controllers on that track. So far, they have been working great. You can use any controller on my tracks. My tracks are called Coyote Gulch, because of my location, out in the middle of nowhere and who the "neighbors" are.

There is no "rule" on what controllers to use. But it does boil down to what the track owner dictates/allows. Weather it's his "house" controllers or "other"...
