This is to poll the membership regarding points awarded or not, at race meetings, and consequently if "Class Championships" are to be recognized. Essentially, the intent of awarding points is to determine drivers rankings in each Class we run, all counting towards each "Class Championship".
With the advent of increased interest and racer participation in recent RMSCC race meetings, the possibility of implementing and awarding a higher points table is being considered. Current practice adheres to the 10-point system, awarding points down to 1 point for 9th place and lower positions, regardless of the total number of racers. Consequently there is no points distinction if one finishes in 9th place or 21st. A higher points table would rectify that as indicated in a couple of options listed below.
Options for consideration will range from;
1st option: Awarding points adhering to current practice; 10 for 1st, 8 for 2nd and down to 1 point for 9th and lower places regardless of how many entrants participate.
2nd option: would be to award points from 20 for 1st, 18 for 2nd and down to 1 point for 19th and lower positions regardless of how many entrants participate.
3rd option: would award the podium positions with more significant point separation; 25 points for 1st, 20 for 2nd, 15 for 3rd, 12 for 4th, 10 for 5th, and decreasing from there in 1 point increments to 1 point for 14th and lower positions.
4th option: would be to have no points scored at all, and consequently no "Championship" for classes recognized.
Certain members have expressed wishes for practically all options listed. The intent of the poll will not just be for polling members for their choice, but to solicit their thoughts as well. There are legitimate reasons and incentives for pursuing a points championship as well as eliminating it, and that is the reason to open dialogue with the membership.
