The Rocky Mountain Slot Car Club (RMSCC) is a group of individuals that enjoy racing 1/32nd (and occasionally 1/24) scale, analog, non-magnet, modern (relatively) slot cars. We are about inclusion not exclusion and we keep the rules to a minimum. We get on Wednesdays at either someones house to race a series of races, in their basement, garage or basement, on mass produced plastic track such as Carrera, Scalextric, Ninco or wooden (MDF) routed tracks or at the store track. Some individuals (members) will open their track to an informal get together such as "Wednesday night racing" just learn how to tune, practice your racing skills and have an impromptu race of "Race what you bring".
Whether we are reliving our childhood or are relatively new to slot cars, our main goal is to HAVE FUN! with these toy cars by racing them around the track! It beats just sitting on the couch watching TV! Or spending hours on the computer!
The price of these "toy cars" range from around $40.00 to over $100.00 depending on the level of "tune" or the "detail" the manufacture put in the car. The cost to "tune" a car may be a minim of $5.00 for a pair of rear tires. Certain "specs" for a particular race may allow you to change out the motor, wheels, gears, etc. which can add up??? "How fast($$$) do you want to go"? There are other "tuning tricks" that don't cost anything and the more experienced members have learned over the years what helps a car run better/faster and will be happy to show you. Don't be put off by the price to play. There are loaners for you to drive so you can decide if you want to join us before investing any money.
The cost of "Membership" is only $5.00 per year. What that gets you is a 15% discount at Colpar Hobbies on almost anything in the store (except R/C stuff) and free use of the "Club Track" in their basement. This can be beneficial if you don't have a track at home. We race two classes for 3 months per class with a switchover to the next class midway through the initial class. This is so you don't have to buy 2 cars at once. While the point is to buy from the store that doesn't mean we only race new cars. We run the same cars later on so don't think we are one and done. Current active duty military members and their family are exempt from dues.
If you are interested in any of this at all please read further just below in the "RMSCC Rules" Thread and the "Message Board Rules" thread. The "RMSCC Rules (by-laws)" were created for if and when things get out of hand for those people that just don't get along with others, don't play well with others or don't like how things are run. If it's not "your cup of tea" just leave and don't make it miserable for everyone else and be nice to the marshals - it is not their fault you went off. As was said in the first paragraph, the tracks we run on are personal tracks that individuals have put together/built and therefore are on private property (except for the store track). These HOMEOWNERS are gracious enough to allow us into there homes as guests so act accordingly! The RMSCC rules/by-laws were also created to help prevent adults form acting like children, even though we are playing with toys. But the bottom line is... YOU ARE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! THE HOMEOWNER HAS THE ULTIMATE SAY SO AT HIS HOUSE! IF HE DOESN'T WANT YOU THERE OR ASKS YOU TO LEAVE, HE HAS THE RIGHT, IT'S HIS HOUSE! The homeowner is just allowing RMSCC members and/or non-members on his property to play on his or her track and if he (or his wife) don't like how you are acting, things you say or how you say them, or doesn't like how you are treating his property they have every right to ask you to leave and not come back! The RMSCC is not responsible in any way shape or form of how you are treated by a homeowner! It's their house, not the RMSCC's house!
So the bottom line is... We are here to have fun, in a responsible way.
