I get questions on what tires will fit on "my" car. I have found a section on the Slot Car Corner website that may help Jerry and any new guy in slotcars. I looked in the "resources" section and found a "how to information": section on "how to measure wheels and tires". The wheel and tire chart can be a big help with finding and then knowing what tire and wheel go together. When I first started back into slotcars, 2008, Slot Car Corner had some charts that had all of the information on some factory wheels and what Super Tires would fit those wheels. Since Slot car Corner now "makes" and sells Quick Slicks, those charts are no longer available.
The three big things about finding what tire may fit in a certain wheel are: the wheel size (A); which is the height of the wheel at the center rib; the wheel width (C), not including the wheel hub, the area where the axle goes into the wheel; and the center rib width (D). The center rib width is the biggest concern for a good fit with a tire setting flat on a wheel. The FLY Classics have a very wide center rib, about 6mm, that makes only the correct tires to fit on their factory size wheel, Super Tires 1007, 1008 and 1009. The 1007 will fit most of the FLY Classics. Super Tires may have a R after the number on some of their tires now. This is referring to the outside should of the tire, R means the shoulder is rounded. Quick Slicks also makes Silicone tires to fit many slotcars. The Quick Slicks are a newer company, may be 10 years now, that will make many tires for a new slotcars as they come out. They, Quick Slicks, have been getting a prototype slotcar and then can have the tire ready when the slotcar is available to the public, like us.
The dimension (B) will be used to find a tire to fit when a wheel is larger or smaller than the "standard" 15mm size wheel, which is normally 15.8mm. 17mm wheels are normally used on a Modern car, like our Modern GT class. There is also the smaller wheel size such as used on F1 cars, 14.5mm. If you try to use a standard sized tire on this wheel it will slip on the wheel as the car is running. Luckly the F1 wheels are normally the widest wheels so it is easy to see that a 7mm wide tire is not a good choice on a 12mm wide wheel. Silicone tires can be stretched to fit a larger wheel, but they do not shrink. So, you can use a tire like a Super Tires 1403 on a 15mm x 8mm wheel and also use it on 17mm x 8mm wheel.
