Recently, Jerry proposed staging the drivers sequence for our races, based upon the previous race finishing positions, rather than the "randomly-generated" computer results. A few of us have noticed that the "randomly selected" sequence has a predilection for picking certain racers running together too many times to be actually "random".
Therefore upon recognizing the computer's propensity for these selections, and staging certain racers running together an inordinate amount of the time, perhaps manually inputting the sequence based upon the finishing order from the previous race might be an equitable option.
Another option might be to just separate the top and lower half of the previous race results and randomly select each half separately for the starting positions.
Post your thoughts or ideas here.

top and lower half sounds like a better option to me

Just my opinion, but I don't think most racers care who they race or where they are in the rotation.

I have been to races where the host placed the drivers in order by the standings. The problem I may have with that is, I may have Harry on one side and John Parker on the other side for most of my racing. Those two may get tired of me getting in their way all of the time.

I don’t think many people care either. I can see issues with trying to put it in order of the last race/standings. Someone’s got to look it up and enter those names and then figure who’s not on that list to enter them at the end… FYI, trackmate cannot randomize 2 groups, it’s all or none.

While I can see the points of everyone above, except for Jim's. Enough has been brought up by enough people to tell me it does matter. Something should be at least tried. As for finding the last finishing order, just look it up on my excel program from the last race and build it that way into TrackMate, instead of the other way around (like we do now).

Actually my suggestion was by points standings. The problem with this is the #1 guy is out after the 1st heat and races against the last place guy. Perhaps the top 2,3 4 depending on the # of lanes, or heat groups. Jim's 4 lane could work well for groups, a 2 lane less likely.

I think that is a good idea of using the standings instead of just the last race. Some guys cannot make every race, so if someone misses a race, they will then become "tail end Charlie", and the idea of racing in the "same group of racers" is lost. When the "top" driver gets to race a lower in the standing's driver, that is a good thing. Each will get to see how the other is driving and each will be able to look at their own driving and it may help both. The faster driver may be able to "learn" some better passing skills, and not kept knocking guys off all of the time to improve his position. The slower driver may be able to improve be noticing when the other driver is braking later and accelerating sooner. Maybe the faster driver would also talk to the slower driver and make a suggestion for the slower driver, such as controller settings that may help him.
I know when I started with the Club, Jerry was a big help for me and now, I know, that John O has met with and has helped Patrick as one example.
